Questions small businesses ask us

Do I really need an HR consultant?

If you employ people, you have HR obligations whether or not anyone is looking after them. Most small businesses don't need a full-time HR person; they need someone to call when something happens and someone to get the basics right so it happens less often. That's what HRmonie is for.

Can I use you just once?

Yes. Pay-as-you-go is exactly that: you call when something comes up and pay for the time you use. No contract, no minimum, no obligation to come back.

Do I need a retainer?

No, but many clients move to one once they've seen the value of having someone who already knows their business. A retainer gives you unlimited day-to-day advice, documents kept up to date and priority response when it matters. You can switch between the two as things change.

Can you attend disciplinary, grievance or investigation meetings?

Yes. We can chair meetings, act as note-taker, or run an independent investigation where the matter needs distance from the business. Many clients find having an experienced HR professional in the room takes the heat out of a difficult situation.

Can you help with redundancies?

Yes, from working out whether redundancy is the right route through to selection, consultation, meetings and the paperwork. Done properly, a redundancy process protects both the business and the people affected.

Can you write contracts, handbooks and policies?

Yes. We write them for your business, in language your team will actually read, and we can review documents you already have to check they're compliant and still reflect how you work.

Do you only work in Stoke-on-Trent?

No. HRmonie is based in Stoke-on-Trent and works with clients across the UK. Most advice happens by phone, video and email; for meetings, investigations and training we travel or deliver online, whichever suits you.

How quickly can you help?

For urgent situations, usually the same day. Book a call or phone us, tell us what's happening, and we'll tell you what to do first.

Will I be talking to Michelle or passed around?

You'll be working directly with Michelle. There's no helpline, no ticket system and no call centre.

Not sure where to start?

A free, no-obligation call. Tell us what's going on and we'll tell you how we'd handle it.
